After exactly one year, Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has revised electricity tariffs in Dehradun. This time the average hike is 5.21%. In face of market fears of a steep rise of up to 10 to 20%, a hike of 5.21% has been well received. Industrialists were apprehensive that if power tariffs were increased in a big way, further industrialization process in the state would be adversely affected. Giving a thumbs up to new power tariff scheme, Vibha Malhotra, Director state office of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said, “We welcome the power tariffs announced by UERC," Mr. Neeraj Sati, secretary of the UERC said, "Our tariffs remain the lowest among many states in the country". .

It is to be noted that for those consuming less than 100 units per month, there is no increase in tariff with only the fixed charge per connection going up by Re 1. On the other hand consumers using more than 400 units per month will have to pay 40 paisa per extra unit consumed. There is no increase in tariff for BPL. The increased tarffs will be effective from 1st May 2013.
