Super Star Rajesh Khanna is No More

Superstar of yesteryears Rajesh Khanna has taken the final bow. After battling a prolonged illness, the superstar passed away this Wednesday afternoon at his residence ‘Aashirwad’ in Mumbai at the age of 69.

Rajesh Khanna can be called the first ‘superstar’ of Hindi cinema . He made his film debut in Chetan Anand’s Aakhri Khat in 1966. He was phenomenally successful in the late 1960s and 70s. He was charming and stylish and girls swooned at the mere mention of his name. He was in love with actress Anju Mahendru but got married to actress Dimple Kapadia in 1973. They had two daughters, Twinkle and Rinke from the marriage. The marriage did not last and the couple separated in 1984. Rajesh Khanna gave many hit films like Kati Patang, Bawarchi, Dushmun, Namak Haraam, Aradhana, Anurodh, Haathi Mere Saathi, Anand, Amar Prem, Aap Ki Kasam, Do Raaste, to name a few.

He was also bestowed with the following awards:

1971 – Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Sachaa Jhutha.

1972 – Filmfare Best Actor Award for Anand.

1973 – Filmfare Special Guest Actor Award for Anuraag.

1974 – Filmfare Best Actor Award for Avishkaar.

1991 – Filmfare Special Award for completing 25 years in the Indian Film Industry.

1995 – Winner Kala Ratna Award.

2005 – Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award

Rajesh Khanna was last seen on screen in the advertisement of Havell’s Fans, a shadow of the man he used to be. Since April 2012, the actor’s condition has been detoriating. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital twice in the past month. Although, he was discharged from the hospital, just a day before he passed away, he was on ventilator support due to low blood pressure and weakness. All his family members including estranged wife Dimple Kapadia, daughters Twinkle and Rinke, son-in-law Akshay Kumar were with him when he breathed his last. RIP Rajesh Khanna.
