Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra awarded Padma Bhushan

The country's third highest civilian honour- Padma Bhushan was awarded to the two Veteran actors of Bollywood- Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra by the honorable President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday, 4th April 2012.

Actress Shabana Azmi was conferred the Padma Bhushan for Art -cinema, Maharashtra. Actor Dharmendra was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in the same category.

Delighted Shabana Azmi posted on micro-blogging site Twitter, "Just received the Padma Bhushan from the President of India. Honoured, humbled and wish to thank all those who made this journey possible."

Filmmaker Mira Nair also won the Padma Bhushan in the Art - cinema, Delhi category. US-based Mira has found international recognition with films like Salaam Bombay, Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair, The Namesake and Amelia. The National award-winning filmmaker is currently busy with The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which is based on a book of the same name.

Late musician Bhupen Hazarika was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for Art - vocal music, Assam. Late Cartoonist Mario Miranda was also honored with this award.
